I do ok at speaking Khmer now but my sentences and grammar may not be perfect but I can get my point across and say if I am tired, or hungry or hurt stuff like that.
Speaking doesn't seem to bad, writing and reading however are very hard for me.

its a good start, don't worry about reading and writing stuff because you are not living in Cambodia therefor there is litle need for that. As time go you will get better at speaking Khmer as long as you wanted to learn.
